Purple Eagles rally past Panthers
Albion rallied for a 7-5 victory over visiting Newfane this afternoon to finish the Niagara-Orleans League baseball season at 7-5.
Trailing 5-1, Albion pulled even by scoring four times in the fourth inning ignited by a single by Thomas Furmanski and highlighted by a two out, two-run single by Alex Gibson.
The Purple Eagles then scored the deciding runs in the fifth again ignited by a single by Furmanski and highlighted by a two out, RBI single by Gibson.
Furmanski finished with a total of 3 hits and Gibson 2.
Furmanski also pitched the final two innings allowing no hits and striking out 3.
Newfane finishes the N-O season at 4-8.

Holley wins sectional quarterfinal
Holley edged past Alexander 3-2 this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Section V Class C team championships.
Holley got wins at the first two singles positions by Aaron Strathearn and Cheyan Palmer and from the second doubles to team of Erik Balys and Cory Puente.
In the Section VI singles championships, Akron’s Nate Chubb won a pair of matches to advance to the semifinals.

In a key regular season ending clash of unbeatens, Newfane defeated Akron 86-55 to capture the N-O league girls track championship.
Kim Goerss won the 1500, 3000 and 400 for Newfane as Gina Shorter doubled in the 100 and 200, Ashlyn Joseph the 100 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles. and Mel Meyers the High Jump and Triple Jump.
Newfane finishes at 6-0 and Akron 5-1.
Newfane completed the sweep by winning the boys meet 97-42 as Reece Casinelli captured the 110 Hurdles, 100 and 800 and Tyler Cottrell the Long Jump and High Jump.
The Panthers finish at 4-2 and the Tigers 0-6.
