Purple Eagles post key win over Tigers

Albion downed visiting Akron 60-56 this evening to move into a tie for second place in the Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball standings with Roy-Hart at 4-2.

Javon Jones scored 15 and Amari Jones, Blake Preston and Aquil Gaffney 12 each to lead the way for the Purple Eagles. Gaffney had two clutch free throws to put Albion up 60-54.

Blake Gerstung led Akron with 17.

Up by a narrow 30-29 margin at the half, Albion used a 14-7 third period scoring edge to open up a 44-36 advantage heading into the final period. Javon Jones netted 6 during that stretch.

Akron is now 3-3.

Newfane 61, Medina 31
Racing out to a commanding 38-10 halftime advantage, front-running Newfane went on to down visiting Medina 61-31 to finish the first half of the N-O season at 6-0.

Evan Myers scored 15 and Landon Braman 10 to lead Newfane.

Aiden Pitts scored 9 and Roosevelt Mitchell 7 for Medina which slips to 1-5.

Wilson 52, Barker 49
Logan Wolfe scored 12, Matt Fox 11 and Mike Bubar 10 to lead Wilson to the narrow 52-49 win over Barker which had Brad Cantrell with 20 and Aidan Mescall 15.

Wilson led 27-17 at the half and 37-28 at the three-quarter mark.

The Lakemen are now 2-4 and the Raiders 1-5.

Pavilion 67, Lyndonville 50
Leading by a narrow 47-45 margin after three quarters, Pavilion outscored visiting Lyndonville 20-5 in the final period to claim a 67-50 non league win.

Landen Stoddard scored 19 and Zach Tillotson 18 to lead Pavilion while Mason Nicholson tallied 19 and Trenton Muck 10 for Lyndonville.

Warsaw 75, Kendall 67
Warsaw bested visiting Kendall 75-67 in a non league game as Quinton Librock led the way with 20.

Jacek Kwiatkowski scored 17, Devin Edick 16, Hunter Richards 14 and Zach Barrett 12 for Kendall.
