Purple Eagles post key win over Rams

Staying in the thick of the title chase, Albion posted an 8-3 victory over host defending champion Roy-Hart in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game this afternoon.

Front-running Medina blanked Barker 18-0 and Wilson nipped Akron 5-4 in the other N-O games.

Those results leave Medina on top at 5-1 followed closely by Wilson 3-1, Albion 3-2 and Roy-Hart 2-2. Akron is two games off the pace at 2-3.

The Mustangs will visit the Lakemen in another key contest on Wednesday.

Thomas Furmanski threw six innings of 3 hit shutout ball with 11 strikeouts to lead the way for Albion.

Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Albion scored three times in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Michael DiCureia and an RBI single by Michael Harling.

A sacrifice fly by Bryce Pritchard in the fourth inning made it 4-0 and the Purple Eagles went on to up the advantage to 8-0 by tallying three times in the sixth on a two-run single by Pritchard and an RBI single by Liam Ward and once in the seventh on an error.

Charlie Brigham had a two-run double and Gavyn Boyle an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for Roy-Hart.

Medina 18, Barker 0
Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit as Medina rolled to an 18-0 win over visiting Barker.

A triple by AJ Seefeldt, along with doubles by Brian Fry, Matt Saj, Joe Cecchini and Austin Mosher, highlighted the attack for the Mustangs which scored 7 runs in the fourth inning, four in the second and three in both the first and fifth frames.

Xander Payne picked up the in on the mound for the Mustangs scattering 4 hits and striking out 4 over six inning.

Wilson 5, Akron 4

Trailing 2-0, Wilson rallied for five runs in the sixth inning on 3 hits, a walk and 2 errors to earn the narrow win over Akron.

Ian Evans registered 13 strikeouts on the mound for Wilson while Akron hurler Brandon Orr had 12 strikeouts.

Albion first baseman Isaiah Callicutt takes the throw as Roy-Hart’s Mike Huntington gets picked off.
