Purple Eagles post key win over Lakemen
The number of undefeated Niagara-Orleans League baseball teams was reduced to zero this afternoon as Albion bested visiting Wilson 10-2.
That loss drops Wilson into a tie for second place with Roy-Hart at 2-1 and vaults 4-1 Medina into sole possession of first place. Albion, which moves to within a game of the top spot at 2-2, is tied for third place with Akron.
Thomas Furmanski went the distance on the mound for Albion allowing 3 hits and striking out 12.
Albion took the lead for good by scoring three quick runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Michael DiCureia and an RBI single by Liam Ward.
Wilson did cut the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on RBI singles by Jacob Miller and Cody Greenlief but the Lakemen would get no closer.
Albion got one of those runs back in the home half of the fourth on an error to make it 4-2. A one out single by Bryce Pritchard started that spurt.
The Purple Eagles then broke the contest wide open by erupting for six runs in the sixth inning on a bunt single by Vincent Zona, a single by Ward, a bases loaded walk and three wild pitches. A leadoff single by Pritchard and a walk ignited that uprising.
