Albion reduced its magic number for clinching a third straight division title to one as the Purple Eagles blanked host Lackawanna 21-0 this afternoon in a key B3 Division football game.
Albion, which won the B2 title last fall with a 5-0 record and shared the B2 crown with Dunkirk at 4-1 in 2017, improves to 3-0 in the division and 4-0 overall. The Purple Eagles will host Olean next Friday to close out their B3 schedule.
The loss drops the Steelers to 1-1 in the division and 3-1 overall.
Albion jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead on a 7 yard touchdown run by Tyray White and an extra point kick by quarterback Thomas Furmanski.
It remained a close 7-0 contest into the third quarter when Furmanski hooked up with Kevin Hillman for a 12 yard touchdown pass. Furmanski had a big 38 yard run to help set up that tally.
The Purple Eagles then put a lock on the victory when Furmanski threw a 14 yard TD pass to Anthony Freeman in the fourth quarter. He also passed to Hillman for the two-point conversion.
Defensively for the Purple Eagles, Deyonci Farley made 10 tackles and Michael DiCureia 9 as Hillman added a pass interception and Bailey Blanchard a fumble recovery.
In the weekend’s other B2 contest, Olean (1-0), 2-2) defeated Depew (0-2, 2-2) 20-3.

Newfane remained undefeated in the B4 Division at 3-0 with a 35-14 win over Burgard as Garrett Srock had touchdown runs of 75 and 25 yards and Jaden Heers TD carries of 44 and 25 yards.
