Purple Eagles, Mustangs will open diamond sectionals at home

Niagara-Orleans League champion Albion and runner-up Medina have both earned home field advantage for the opening round of the upcoming Section VI baseball playoffs.

Albion, which captured a third straight N-O title with a 13-1 record, is the No. 2 seed for the Class A2 playoffs. The Purple Eagles will host the winner o fFriday’s opening round contest between No. 10 Amherst and No. 7 Maryvale in the quarterfinals next Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Medina, which finished in second place in the final N-O standings at 10-4, is seeded No. 6 for the Class B1 playoffs. The Mustangs will host No. 11 Dunkirk in the pre quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Friday.

Roy-Hart, which finished in a tie for third place with Akron at 9-5 in the final N-O standings, is seeded No. 4 in Class B2. The Rams will host the winner of the pre quarterfinal round game between No. 12 Lackawanna and No. 5 Southwestern in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. next Tuesday.

Also in Class B2 No. 9 CSAT visits No. 8 Falconer on Friday while No. 3 Akron will open at home next Tuesday hosting the winner of the pre quarterfinal round contest between No. 11 Wilson and No. 6 JFK.

In Class C, No. 11 Barker will visit No. 6 Portville at 5 p.m. Friday in the pre quarterfinals.

Tennis Sectionals

Medina’s Ben Howell dropped a three set decision to Niagara-Wheatfield’s Jason Bolea today in the opening round of the Section VI tennis tournament.

Wilson’s Isaiah Barrett also lost in the opening round in straight sets as did all three Niagara-Orleans League doubles teams in the competition.
