Purple Eagles, Mustangs rivalry matchup to highlight soccer sectional openers

No. 8 seed Albion will host rival No. 9 Medina/Lyndonville in the opening round of the Section VI Class B-1 girls soccer playoffs at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The two teams battled to a pair of overtime contests during the just completed Niagara-Orleans League season.  The Purple Eagles nipped the Mustangs 3-2 in the first meeting while the teams battled to a 3-3 tie in the second.

The Purple Eagles bring an 8-6-2 record into the sectionals while the Mustangs are 4-10-2.
The winner will visit top seeded City Honors on Friday.

N-O champion Newfane is seeded No. 2 and will host the winner of the opening round No. 10 Dunkirk vs. No. 7 Springville contest on Friday.

Class B-2 quarterfinal round action on Friday will have No. 5 Eden (4-9-2) at No. 4 Wilson (9-6-1), No. 6 Roy-Hart (5-11) at No. 3 Southwestern (13-3) and No. 7 JFK (2-9-1) at No. 2 Akron (10-4).

In Section V girls playoff action No. 4 Kendall (12-4) will host No. 13 Pavilion (5-11) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Class D-1. The victor will face the winner of the No. 12 Bishop Kearney (8-7-1) vs. No. 5 Naples (13-3) contest on Saturday.  In Class C-1, No. 11 Holley (7-8-1) visits No. 6 Pembroke (10-6) at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

In Section V boys playoff competition in Class D-1 No. 11 Kendall will visit No. 6 Fillmore at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victor will face the winner of the No. 14 Dundee vs. No. 3 Mt. Morris contest on Friday. In Class C-1, Holley is seeded No. 3 and will host the winner of the No. 11 East Rochester vs. No. 6 Pembroke game on Saturday.

In Section VI Class B-1 boys action Tuesday, No. 11 Medina/Lyndonville visits No. 6 Alden at 3:30 p.m.. and No. 9 Albion travels to No. 8 Tonawanda at 5 p.m. Newfane is the No. 2 seed. In Class B-2 on Tuesday, No. 5 Roy-Hart hosts No. 12 Middle Early College at 6:30 p.m. and No. 10 Akron visits No. 7 Salamanca at 3:30 p.m. Wilson is the No. 3 seed.
