Purple Eagles, Mustangs bow in N-O contests

Unable to keep the momentum from a fast start, Albion dropped a 69-47 decision to visiting defending champion CSAT this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.

Medina likewise dropped a narrow 65-57 N-O decision at Newfane while Roy-Hart was downed 65-42 at Buffalo Tapestry in a non league game.

Albion jumped out to a 14-2 lead at the outset as Austin Loyd hit two threes and Manny Thompson and Ryan Fannin both chipped in with four points.

However, CSAT came battling back cutting the deficit to one, 14-13, at the end of the first period and then using a big 17-7 second quarter scoring edge to rally into a 30-21 advantage at the half.

Keeping the momentum, CSAT outscored Albion 21-12 in the third period to extend the advantage to 51-33 heading into the final stanza.

Jorge Brown scored 14, Dylanta Carson 13 and Alex Santos 12 to lead the balanced attack for CSAT.

Fannin finished with 11 for Albion as Thompson had 8, Loyd, Des Blackmon and Clayton Stanton 6 each, Chris Trevino 4 and Alex Bison and Chris Rivers 2 each.

Newfane 65, Medina 57
A big second half rally fell just short as Medina dropped a 65-57 decision at Newfane.

Leading by a narrow 8-6 margin after one quarter, Newfane used a 24-14 second quarter scoring edge to open up a 32-20 advantage at the half. Sean Costello scored 9 of his 15 points to lead that Panthers surge.

However, Medina came battling back with s 19-12 third period surge to rally back to within five, 44-39, at the three-quarter mark. Kevin Arnold hit three threes to lead that Mustangs rally.

Getting 13 points down the stretch from Dan Brown, the Mustangs rallied to within four, 61-57, but could get no closer.

Kyle Burdick and Costello each made two clutch free throws in the final minute to clinch the Newfane victory. Burdick had a total of 16 points on the night. Josh Kneeland also tallied 9 of his game high 21 points in the final stanza for the Panthers.

Brown finished with 20 points, Arnold 14 and Jason Hellwig 12 for Medina as Ben McPherson added 6 and David Garrow and Cedric Griffith 2 each.

Tapestry 65, Roy-Hart 42
Alex Stoddard scored 21 for Roy-Hart which trailed by only seven 27-20, at the half.
