Purple Eagles, Mustangs battle to OT tie

Rivals Albion and Medina/Lyndonville battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie this evening in a Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game at Albion.

Albion grabbed a 1-0 lead with 11:55 remaining in the first half as Brad Sanford scored on a rebound shot. Dylan Bader earned the assist.

Medina/Lyndonville battled back to knot the contest when Nick Albone scored with 12:14 remaining in the second half as Vassilios Bitsas picked up the assist.

Neither team could find the net in the two 10 minute overtime periods during which time Albion goalie Devin Gaylord made several key stops.

Medina/Lyndonville, which is now 5-1-1, slips a game and a half behind undefeated (7-0-0) league leading Newfane which defeated rival Wilson (3-2-1) 4-1.

Albion’s Carson Trupo battles Medina/Lyndonville’s Carson Zgoda for control of the ball.

Trevor Moreland scored the three goal hat-trick to lead the way for Newfane, the first of which came with just two minutes to go in the first half snapping a scoreless deadlock.

Albion is now 2-4-2 in N-O action.

In the other N-O game, CSAT (1-7) blanked host Roy-Hart (1-6-0) 4-0.
