Purple Eagles and Mustangs bow in boys soccer sectional openers

No. 8 Tonawanda nipped No. 9 Albion 2-1 and No. 6 Alden bested No. 11 Medina/Lyndonville 5-2 this afternoon in the opening round of the Section VI Class B-1 boys soccer playoffs.

Brad Sanford netted the lone goal off an assist from Kendyll Hadick for Albion which had trailed 2-0.

Trenton Jones scored both goals for Medina which trailed 4-0 at the half.

In Class B-2, No. 5 Roy-Hart won by forfeit over No. 12 Middle Early College which did not have enough players for the contest.

In a Section V Class D-1 opener No. 6 Fillmore blanked No. 11 Kendall 4-0.

In a Section V Class C-1 girls soccer opener No. 6 Pembroke nipped No. 11 Holley 1-0 in a shootout.

The contest went 0-0 after 80 minutes of regulation platt, two 10 minute overtime periods and two sudden death five minute periods setting the stage for the shootout which saw Pembroke outscore Holley 3-2.
