Purple Eagles hand Tigers first loss; Lakemen nip Mustangs in OT; Bulldogs edge Rams
The Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball title race really tightened up this evening as Albion knocked front-running Akron from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 51-47 score at Albion and Wilson nipped visiting Medina 48-46 in overtime.
Those results leave Akron at 6-1 and holding a slim half game edge over 5-1 Wilson as Medina is 4-2 and Albion 4-3.
Aidan Neumann hit what proved to be the game winning shot in overtime with a three which put Wilson up 47-46.
Neumann finished with 18 and Shamus George 17 to lead the Lakemen.
Trailing by 10, 37-27, at the end of the third period, Medina sent the game into overtime deadlocked at 39-39 after outscoring Wilson 12-2 in the fourth quarter. Preston Woodworth and Avion Johnson both hit threes and Jerrell Nealy had a pair of baskets to lead that Mustangs rally.
Nealy finished with a game high 20, Woodworth 8 and Johnson 6.
Albion 51, Akron 47
Kyle Radder scored 15, Wesley Olles 14, Tyler Cody 10 and Isaiah Riley 8 to lead the balanced attack for Albion in the key 51-47 victory over previously unbeaten Akron.
Derren Brooks scored a game high 24 to lead Akron.
Leading by a narrow 22-21 margin at the half, Albion extended its lead to 10, 42-32, at the three-quarter mark as Radder scored 8 and Cody 7 in the third period.
The Purple Eagles then held off a fourth quarter Tigers comeback bid.
Free throws by Riley, Rader and Olles in the final minute helped Albion lock up the win as Akron could get no closer than three down the stretch.
Barker 61, Roy-Hart 60
Owen Harris scored 18, Donovan Hefferon 14 and Logan Murrell 13 to lead Barker to a narrow 61-60 win over Roy-Hart. Two late free throws by Hefferon helped the Bulldogs lock up the win.
Dan Aquilina scored a game high 30 for Roy-Hart. Braden Ricker added 8 and Erique Powell 7 for the Rams.
Barker is now 2-4 and Roy-Hart 1-5 in N-O action.
