Since only four of the seven regular season games count in the division title race for Section VI Class B football teams every one is vitally important and that is certainly the case for Albion as the Purple Eagles visit Depew at 7 p.m. Friday in a key B3 contest.

Albion, which romped past Springville 50-8 last Friday in the Purple Eagles B3 opener, is 2-0 overall.

It will be the B3 opener for Depew which is also at 2-0 after a pair of close, low scoring interdivisional wins over Alden (14-6) and Tonawanda (17-15).

Running back Christian Pagano has scored 3 of Depew’s 4 touchdowns to date and Devin Connolly had a 32 yard field goal to provide the margin of victory for the Wildcats against Tonawanda.

Albion has featured a balanced attack as quarterback Thomas Furmanski has run for 2 touchdowns and passed to Kevin Hillman for another and a trio of running backs have rushed for TDs including Tyray White with 3, Bril Johnson 2 and Deyonci Farley 1.

The Purple Eagles defense has also provided some scoring punch as Chris Shabazz has returned two interceptions for touchdowns and Hill has scored on a fumble recovery.

Albion holds a 12-9 lead in the all-time series with Depew including a 35-0 win last fall. The teams have split their last four meetings.

Mustangs visit Flyers
Medina/Lyndonville/Barker will be looking to snap a season opening two game losing streak when the Mustangs visit Maryvale in a B2 Division game at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Mustangs are coming off a 34-14 B2 opening loss to Iroquois.

It will be the B2 opener for Maryvale which is 2-0 overall after interdivisional wins over Cleve Hill (21-20) and Burgard (28-6).

Quarterback Connor Desiderio, who passed for 173 yards and ran for 2 touchdowns in the win over Burgard last week, leads the Flyers attack.

Wide receiver Brian Fry accounted for both of the Mustangs touchdowns in the loss to Iroquois on a 20 yard pass from quarterback Jarin Rhim and an 82 yard kickoff return.

The Mustangs hold an 8-7 lead in the all-time series with the Flyers including a 44-14 win in their last meeting in 2013.

The featured B2 game Friday will have Maritime/Health Sciences (1-0, 2-0) at Iroquois (1-0, 2-0).

In an interdivisional game Friday, Roy-Hart will visit Alden at 7 p.m.
