Purple Eagles edge Rams in overtime

Albion outlasted host Roy-Hart 79-73 in overtime in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball thriller this evening.

Albion sent the contest into overtime deadlocked at 67-67 as Javon Jones scored on a layup with only two seconds remaining.

The Purple Eagles then outscored the Rams 12-6 in the overtime period as Amari Jones scored 5 and Javon Jones and Blake Preston both scored on layups.

Roy-Hart led by 11, 39-28, at the half but Albion came battling back with a 24-15 third period scoring edge to slice the deficit to just two, 54-52, heading into the final period.

Javon Jones scored 7 and Amari Jones and Sh’kwe Riley both added 6 to lead the big Purple Eagles rally.

Javon Jones finished with 16 to lead a quintet of Purple Eagle double figure scorers as Preston had 15, Amari Jones 14, Riley 12 and Aquil Gaffney 11.

Jamel Johnson Jr. took game high scoring honors for Roy-Hart with 37 as Nate Beyer had 12.

Albion improves to 3-0 in N-O action and Roy-Hart slips to 1-2.

Akron 69, Barker 47
Ben Gerstung scored 19, Donny Kreher 12 and Trace Hill and Bral Abrams 11 each to lead Akron to a 69-47 N-O win over Barker.

Brad Cantrell scored 116 and Luey Castro and Aidan Mecall both chipped in with 11 for Barker.

Akron is now 2-0 and Barker 0-3 in N-O action.

In another N-O game, Newfane defeated rival Wilson 60-45 to improve to 3-0.
