Purple Eagles blank Tigers in N-O finale

Closing out the league season on a high note, Albion blanked host Akron 7-0 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans baseball contest.

Brady Meakin hurled a 3 hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to lead the way for Albion.

Evan Pappalardo had 3 hits and Meakin and Bryce Pritchard 2 each to pace the Purple Eagles at the plate.

Leading by a narrow 2-0 margin, Albion put a lock on the victory by scoring five times with two outs in the sixth inning on a double by Jason Downs, singles by Vincent Zona, Meakin and Pappalardo and an error.

Albion finishes the N-O season at 9-5 and Akron at 3-11.

Newfane 18, Wilson 8
Trailing 8-2, Newfane exploded for 14 runs in a marathon third inning to key an 18-8 win over rival Wilson.

A grand slam home run by Will Newton highlighted the Panthers decisive uprising.

Wilson finishes the N-O season at 8-6 and Newfane at 2-12.

Final Standings
Roy-Hart 12-2, Albion 9-5, CSAT 9-5, Barker 8-6, Wilson 8-6, Medina 5-9, Akron 3-11, Newfane 2-12.

Softball

Akron 22, Albion 6
Natalie DiCureia had 3 hits, including a double, Meghan Hurley two triples and Ashley Bocach 2 hits for Albion in the 22-6 loss to champion Akron.

Wilson 9, Barker 3
Wilson completed the finish of a protest game by downing Barker 9-3.

Three double plays by the defense highlighted the victory for the Lakewomen. Jen Darlak, Lauren Couturier and Taylor Cyphert teamed up to turn one double play while Rachael Cobo and Emily Kelly took turns keying the other two.

Wilson finishes the N-O season at 5-9 and Barker at 3-11.
