Purple Eagles best rival Mustangs

Avenging an earlier season 9-1 loss, Albion posted an 8-2 victory over visiting Medina this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game.

Improving to 7-3, Albion stays within two games of front-running Roy-Hart (8-1) as Medina slips to 6-3.

Albion moved on top to stay by scoring three quick runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Isaiah Callicutt,  passed ball and an error. A single by Austin Dugan and a pair of walks set up the threat.

Medina cut the deficit to 3-1 by scoring one in the top of the fourth on a single by Chis Goyette. However, Albion got that one right back with interest by tallying twice in the home half of the frame on an RBI single by Liam Ward and a passed ball.

Callicutt, who had a total of 3 hits on the day, banged out an RBI double in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the sixth.  Bryce Pritchard also had an RBI triple in the sixth.

Thomas Furmanski, who pitched into the sixth inning for the Purple Eagles, allowed only 2 hits and struck out 10 to earn the win on the mound.

Brett Riemer had Medina’s only other hit with a sixth inning double.

Defensively, Albion turned a double play in the second inning triggered by second baseman Addison Christ. and third baseman Nate Fearby made a nifty snag of a high line drive shot in the third inning.

Wilson 10, Barker 2
Jackson Rotella picked up the win on the mound for Wilson in the 10-2 victory over Barker allowing 2 hits and striking out 9 in five innings of work on the mound.

Ian Evans had 3 hits, including a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs and Cody Greenlief a two-run single to highlight the Wilson offense.

Wilson is now 3-4 and Barker 0-11.

Akron 13, Newfane 7
Akron rallied from a 7-6 deficit with a big 7 run sixth inning scoring burst to down Newfane 13-7.

A two-run single by Brandon Orr highlighted that decisive uprising for the Tgiers which also got 3 hits on the day from both Jake Cummings and Derek Holtz.

Akron is now 8-2 and Newfane 1-9.

Albion’s Isaiah Callicutt is tagged out at third base by Trevor Luthart after trying to stretch an RBI double into a triple.
