Purple Eagle booters to host rival Mustangs to start busy H.S. sports week

Defending champion Medina/Lyndonville (5-1) will visit rival Albion (2-4-1) at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wilson (3-1-1) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday to highlight the upcoming week of boys soccer action. The Mustangs nipped the Purple Eagles 2-0 earlier in the season.

Medina/Lyndonville currently trails undefeated (6-0) Newfane in the Niagara-Orleans League title race. The Panthers handed the Mustangs their only N-O loss by a narrow 1-0 margin in overtime.

In girls soccer, Lyndonville will visit Kendall at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday while Medina (2-4-2) will host Newfane (7-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Akron (4-3-1) at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. The defending Genesee Region Division 1 champion Kendall girls are off to a 7-0 start in the league and 10-0 overall.

N-O field hockey action will feature front-running Akron (6-0) hosting Roy-Hart (4-4) on Tuesday and visiting Medina (1-6) on Thursday. Akron nipped Roy-Hart 1-0 in overtime earlier in the season.

N-O cross-country action gets underway on Tuesday as Barker will host Medina, Albion will entertain Akron and CSAT and Roy-Hart will host Newfane and Wilson. The Barker boys and Akron girls are the defending league champions.

Football action on Friday will have Medina at Alden in a B East Division game, Albion at Pioneer in an interdivisional contest and Holley at Pembroke in a G-R game. On Saturday, Barker/Roy-Hart will host a Pennsylvania foe, East High of Erie, at 2 p.m. at Middleport.
