Police seek public help with currency scam in Ridgeway, Niagara County

Courtesy of State Police: This unidentified man allegedly scammed cashiers out of extra money at Ridgeway and Niagara County.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who is allegedly scamming cashiers.

State troopers out of Albion on Feb. 11 responded to Champs Mini Mart on Ridge Road in the Town of Ridgeway for a fraud complaint. The pictured suspect goes into the store and buys a $2 in Lotto ticket and attempts to pay with a $100 bill.

During the transaction the suspect asks for different denominations of the bills for change, ultimately getting $150 back. The pictured black male is suspected throughout Niagara County with other law enforcement agencies of doing the same scam to cashiers.
