The Medina Teachers’ Association Yankees defeat the Harris Farms Orioles 9-0 in the opening round of mini-league playoffs Saturday.

Ben Beam held the Orioles scoreless over the first three innings giving up only one hit and striking out four in his strongest outing of the year.

The Yankees staked Beam all the runs he needed in the bottom of the first inning.  Brian Fry led off with a walk and then proceeded to swipe second and third base.  Nathan Sherman then drove him in with a single.  Sherman then stole second and third base and scored on a pass ball to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead at the end of one inning.

The Yankees then tacked on four more runs in the second as the Orioles pitching struggled giving up five walks and two hit by pitches.  Beam, Jack Rustowski, and Ike Pace each walked and scored and Connor McNeil and Lincoln Pace each got hit by a pitch.  McNeil eventually scored after Fry and Sherman walked.

The Yankees added one more in the fourth when Sam Kingsbury walked, stole second and third and scored on a pass ball making the score 7-0.

The Yankees finished the scoring in the bottom of the fifth with a Fry single, a Sherman walk, an Austin Mosher single and base on balls to Beam and “Seabass” Fisher.  Fry and Sherman both scored in the inning making the score 9-0.

Fry came on to pitch the final 2 and 1/3 innings recording six strike outs and giving up zero hits.
