ALBION – The Orleans County Planning Board backed a Barre woman’s proposal to operate a bakery/kitchen from her home on Eagle Harbor Road.

Kimberly Smith needs site plan approval and a special use permit from Barre to operate the home business in a Residential/Agricultural District. The County Planning Board recommended the Town of Barre approve the site plan and permit at 4261 Eagle Harbor Rd.

Smith in her application said Kim’s Kitchen-Bakery & More will have little impact on the neighborhood because her baked goods will be taken to farmers’ markets, and animal and craft shows. She will also deliver orders to businesses, homes, schools and other customers.

Smith plans to make custom cakes, breads and muffins, candy, melted chocolate, seasoning mixes, dry mixes, dog treats, cat treats and bird treats, and other items.

Another project approved by the Planning Board last week included:

• A dog kennel in Gaines at the home of Cary DeClerk at 3078 Gaines Basin Rd. The kennel isn’t a boarding business but a place for DeClerk to keep up to 10 dogs that are family pets. He will be trying to breed a couple litters of dogs each year.
