Avenging a regular season 22-16 loss, No. 3 seed Pioneer nipped visiting No. 6 Albion 7-6 this evening in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B playoffs.

Albion grabbed a 6-0 lead in the second quarter on a 65 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Amari Jones to Kwame Riley. However, the two-point conversion attempt failed which proved to be costly for the Purple Eagles which failed to cross the Panthers 20 yard line again.

Pioneer scored its lone touchdown and extra point kick in the third quarter and made the slender 7-6 lead hold up.

Albion did get one last chance as Sh’Kwe Riley recovered a Pioneer fumble at the Purple Eagles 40 with about three minutes to go in the game. However, an interception by the Panthers with a minute to go dashed that comeback bid.

Albion, which brought a six game winning streak into the sectionals, finishes the season at 6-3 while Pioneer advances to the semis with a 7-2 record.
