Perry girls down Kendall in sectional opener
A big scoring burst to open the second half keyed No. 9 seed Perry to a 50-38 win over No. 8 Kendall in a Section VI Class C1 pre-quarterfinal round girls playoff game this evening at Kendall.
Breaking away from a 17-17 half-time deadlock, Perry erupted with a 15-0 scoring surge over the first four minutes of the third period, including 13 by Jaelyn Morris, to take the lead for good by a 32-17 margin.
Kendall did cut the deficit back to nine, 37-28, by closing the third period with a 9-2 run including a 3 by Brooke Rodas and baskets by Addison Kludt and Ava LaMay.
A basket by Stella Kwiatek then pulled Kendall within seven, 37-30, at the outset of the final period but the Lady Eagles could get no closer.
The Yellowjackets answered right back with baskets by Jessah Morris and Jade Duffin to quickly go back up by 11, 41-30.
Kendall held a slender 10-9 lead at the end of the opening period after a three by Danielle Offhaus and a layup off a steal by Sophia Picardo.
Despite going just 2 of 16 from the field in the second quarter, Kendall stayed even at the half at 17-17 but could not regain the lead.
