Pembroke nips Medina in softball
A late rally fell just short as Medina dropped a narrow 13-12 decision to Pembroke in a non league softball game this afternoon at Vets Park.
Trailing 13-5, Medina got back into the game by scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning highlighted by an RBI double by Alisha Scroger and run producing singles by Emma Ambrose and Nicole Blount. Singles by Brittany Schultz and Bailey Allen ignited the rally.
Keeping the momentum, Medina rallied for two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single by Allen, an error and a fielders choice play to slice the deficit to 13-12. However, the Mustangs left runners stranded at second and third as Pembroke escaped with the narrow one run win.
Pembroke jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Medina came battling back with five runs in the home half of the third to grab what proved to be the Mustangs only lead at 5-4. A triple by Destiny Satkowski, a double by Ryenn Oliver and a two-run single by Ambrose highlighted that uprising which was ignited by a single by Schultz and an error.
However, Pembroke answered right back with six runs in the fifth inning on a burst of five hits to regain the lead for good at 10-5. The Dragons tacked on three more tallies in the top of the sixth to up the advantage to 13-5.
Schultz, Allen and Scroger each finished with 3 hits for Medina as Ambrose and Abi Smith both had 2.
Medina defeated Pembroke 26-8 in the JV game as Grace Masse had 3 hits and Cora Payne, Alyssa Beyer, Hannah Hamilton, Leah Sheelar and Ashlee Howell 2 each.
