It was 15 up and 15 down as Medina senior pitcher Xander Payne hurled a perfect game leading the Mustangs to a 12-0 five inning mercy rule win over Alden in a non league game at Vets Park this afternoon.

Payne struck out 12 of the 15 batters he faced as two outfield fly outs and an infield lineout accounted for the other outs.

At the plate, Aidan Paul and Zach Fike both had two hits for the Mustangs as Payne, Joe Cecchini, Julian Woodworth and Hayden Woodroe each had one.

Medina jumped out to a quick 4-0 first inning lead as Cecchini banged out a two-run single.

A rash of walks highlighted a five run second inning for the Mustangs which also got a two-run triple by Fike in the third frame.

Now at 5-0 overall, Medina next hosts Cleveland Hill in a non league game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
