In a tight defensive battle between unbeatens, Newfane nipped visiting Medina/Lyndonville 1-0 in overtime this afternoon in a key early season Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer contest.

Ryan LaRuffa scored the game’s only goal for Newfane five minutes into the first 10 minute overtime period off an assist from Mateo May.

The victory keeps the Panthers perfect at 3-0 in N-O competition while the defending champion Mustangs slip to 2-1.

The Mustangs next host Akron (2-1) in another key contest at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Vets Park.
