Undefeated (9-0-1) Newfane downed Medina/Lyndonville 3-1 this afternoon at Vets Park to clinch the Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer championship.

Newfane jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Terrell Atkins scored off an assist from Clayton Cleveley and Chad Gilson tallied from Trevor Moreland.

Medina/Lyndonville did cut the deficit to 2-1 10 minutes into the second half as Brian Anderson scored his seventh goal of the season off an assist from Greg Husung but the Mustangs could not pull even.

The Panthers regained a two goal, 3-1, advantage just three minutes later when Gilson scored his 18th from Moreland who earned his 15th assist.

The N-O championship is the third for the Panthers whose previous titles were earned in 1999 and 2012.

The loss drops defending champion Medina/Lyndonville to 5-3-1.
