Panthers hand Mustangs first N-O loss

Newfane pushed across a run in the bottom of the 8th inning to knock visiting Medina from the ranks of the unbeaten by a narrow 2-1 margin this afternoon in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game.

Newfane improves to 5-2 while Medina, which now holds only a one game lead, slips to 6-1.

Newfane scored the game winner in the eighth on an RBI single by Kyle Jurek. Singles by Ryan Gmerek and Derek Scrock set up the threat.

The Panthers other run came in the first inning on an error.

Medina knotted the contest at 1-1 in the sixth on an error.

Will Newton, who hurled the first seven innings, and Scrock, who pitched the eighth, combined for a no hitter. Newton struck out 9 and Scrock 1.

Albion 9, CSAT 1

Albion used a big 6 run first inning scoring burst to key a 9-1 victory over host CSAT and improve to 4-3 in N-O action.

A two-run single by Austin Loyd capped off the decisive first inning for Albion which also included singles by JJ Downs, Brady Meakin, Dominic DiCureia and Trey Hart.

Loyd also had a two-run single top cap a three-run third inning which also included singles by winning pitcher Evan Pappalardo and Hart.

Loyd, Meakin, DiCureia and Hart each finished with 2 hits.

On the mound, Pappalardo hurled a 3 hitter with 9 strikeouts.

The loss drops CSAT to 3-3.
