Panthers duo earns N-O track honors
Contributed Photos – Newfane’s Kim Goerss and Sam Auernhamer have been named the Niagara-Orleans League Players of the Year in track.
Newfane captured both the Niagara-Orleans League boys and girls track championships this season with perfect 6-0 records. The Panthers have now capped off that very successful season by having two of their top athletes, Kim Goerss and Sam Auernhamer, earn the N-O League’s Player of the Year honors.
Goerss, who went undefeated in league duel meets in both the 1500 and 3000, captured the N-O championship in the 800 and 1500. She placed fifth at the sectionals in the 800 and eighth in the 1500. She holds the school record in the 1500 with a time of 4:52.
Auernhamer, who holds the school record in both the 3200 (9:52.22) and the 3000 Steeplechase (9:48.48), went undefeated in the 3200 in league duel meets . He won the N-O championship in the 3200 and the 3000 Steeplechase and was a member of the winning 3200 Relay team. He placed second in the 3000 Steeplechase at the sectionals and eighth at the state meet.
