All of the scoring came in the second half as No. 3 Newfane shutout visiting No. 6 Medina/Lyndonville 3-0 this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section VI Class B1 boys soccer playoffs.

Newfane broke away from a 0-0 deadlock when Ryan LaRuffa scored just eight minutes into the second half off an assist from Chad Gilson.

With the contest still tight at 1-0, the Newfane defense then came up huge a few minutes later to turn back the Mustangs biggest scoring threat as defender Matt Vogt came back to make a clutch clear at the edge of the goal mouth after Panthers goalie Jeremy Ribbeck had made the initial save.

Newfane opened up a little breathing room at 2-0 when Trevor Moreland scored with 16 minutes remaining off an assist from Nick Schultz.

The Panthers then sealed the victory when Terrell Atkins tallied off an assist from Clayton Cleveley.

Niagara-Orleans champion Newfane, which also bested Medina/Lyndonville twice during the league campaign by scores of 1-0 in overtime an 3-1, will now face the winner of the No. 2 East Aurora vs. No. 10 Lafayette game in the semifinals Saturday at Hamburg.

In an all N-O Class B2 quarterfinal matchup No. 4 Wilson nipped No. 5 Akron 2-1.
