Ortt says Health Commissioner’s testimony ‘riddled with distortions’

Statement from Rob Ortt, Republican Leader in State Senate

Today’s health hearing once again proved that the Governor and his administration have no respect for the Legislature or the people we were elected to represent. The Republican Conference is renewing their request to the Majority: we need more public hearings with Commissioner Zucker and the Department of Health because many questions were left unanswered.

After repeated delays, Health Commissioner Howard Zucker managed to find time in his busy schedule to provide us with some very limited testimony. It’s unfortunate that his testimony was riddled with the same distortions, deflections, and political defenses we’ve heard for months.

In addition, we still need an independent investigation – with subpoena power – into the Cuomo administration’s disastrous handling of Covid in our nursing homes, vaccinations, and employee departures. We need a full accounting so these tragic outcomes never happen again.

Families deserve answers and accountability – they got neither today from the Health Commissioner.
