Spring Indoor Volleyball
This week in our spring volleyball league, every team was battling for position as we get closer and closer to our playoffs. Some teams took care of business and some of them faltered against lower competition.
Starting off with C division, dominant Main Liquor took on Just Us. Every game was close but Main Liquor continued to roll as they took the match 3-0 with a score of 78-66. The match was highlighted by a 28-26 victory in game two; everyone was sweating after that one. Gary and Nicci Moore were the stars in that match, putting on a clinic of teamwork.
The next match was between Set on The Beach and Misfits. It was the battle between our referees as Mike Wengrzycki and Matt Mescall took on each other in a thrilling three game set. It was Mike and Set on The Beach that came out on top, winning 2-1 with a 65-63.
Moving on to our B division, Baxter took on Dem Apples. Baxter looked poised to take all three games but Dem Apples had other things in mind. The first game went the distance as Baxter squeaked it out with a 26-24 victory. It was all downhill for Dem Apples after that. Baxter caught fire and finished the next two games in dominant fashion, winning the match 3-0 with a score of 76-43.
Next up were two juggernauts coming to blows with defending champs Cupcakes vs. Eddie’s Block Party. Steve Crane had his way with the opposing team in the first game by serving ten straight times to lead his team to an easy game one victory. Next game would be another story as Eddie’s Block Party came together and won game two with Riley Welker putting on a show. It came down to game three and Cupcakes took it to another level as they ran away with 25-13 victory, winning the match 2-1 with a score of 70-59.
Last but not least Victorious Secret took on Bridget’s Bashers. In a stellar comeback, Secret was able to take a close game one 25-22. Sam Skryp and Sam Roskowski (Sam Squared) led their team with a destructive set-spike combo. Bashers would fight back in the next two games but Secret had no plans on losing, as they won the match 3-0 with score of 75-55.
Making our way over to A division, Mustangs took on T-Shirts Etc. What a way to start off the night, as the first game went to an explosive 31-29 finish. Neither team wanted to concede but Tim Lincoln and Mustangs wouldn’t be denied as they won the most exciting game of the season. T-Shirts Etc brushed it off and won the next two with relative ease. The effort on their part, not many teams would be able to bounce back from a lose like that.
In our second match Bumpin Uglies took on first place Zacher Construction. Just like their previous encounter, Zacher took care of business and won 3-0 with a score of 75-40. Ryan Stephens had a strong showing despite the loss but it doesn’t seem like anyone can put it all together to beat Zacher Construction.
In our final match SWAT Team took on Zacher Construction in a battle of endurance. Steve Crane used his powerful serve to keep all the games close but Scott Grim and Zacher wouldn’t let their undefeated streak fall so easily, as they cruised to another 3-0 victory with a score of 75-50. Can anyone beat Zacher?
Adult Floor Hockey
In our sixth week of adult floor hockey, teams were finally getting a sense of who they were going to match up with in the first round of playoffs. With only two week left, every game was starting to mean more and more.
In our first game of the day, Team Ramrod took on Gator Gang. With this being Ramrod’s last game they knew they had to pull out the win. With neither team getting a lead of more than one, everyone knew it would come down to the final minutes. Ramrod’s ace Trevor Power was able to come through in the clutch and win them the game 6-5.
In our second match of night No Names took on Avanti’s in battle of our 1st and 2nd place teams. No Names made a point as they thrashed Avanti’s 18-3. This was the worse lost of Avanti’s five season here. The real question now is can anyone beat No Names?
In our final match of the night Knights took on their rival Roberts Farm Market. These teams have a long history together. The last time they met the game decided both of their playoff seeding, so the intensity was high before the game even started. Last time Roberts Farm Market got the better of Knights but this time Knights came out on top with a 4-3 victory. It was a huge win for the team, since it was their first week of the season. We will see if they can keep it going next week as we move into our final week of the season.
