Orleans Vets nips Banes to claim Womens ‘A’ Division playoff title

Trailing 5-1, regular season leader Orleans Vets rallied with a big eight run fifth inning scoring burst to edge past Banes Machine Shop/Banes Plumbing 9-6 Saturday in the second and deciding title round game of the Medina Women’s Softball League ‘A’ Division playoffs at Jr. Wilson.

Hits by Bridget Tower, Randi Scholes and Melissa Prince, along with four walks, keyed the decisive championship clinching rally for Orleans Vets.

Banes had built up there 5-1 advantage after scoring four times in the third inning sparked by hits by Connie Heschke, Alisha Foss, Kathy Allen and Patty Page. Foss and Allen both had a total of three hits.

Banes forced the title series to the limit by romping to a 16-1 victory over Orleans Vets in the first game.

Allen, Foss and Cathy Quackenbush each had two hits in the game for Banes which scored four times in both the second and fourth innings and five in the sixth.

Orleans Vets also edged Banes 4-1 in the winners bracket final by scoring four runs in the fifth inning aided by three walks.

Banes rebounded to defeat Just Us 8-6 in the losers bracket final to gain a berth in the championship round. Two runs in the seventh inning sparked by hits by Allen and Quackenbush provided the margin of victory.
