MEDINA — A nursing home in Medina that had largely avoided an outbreak from Covid-19 has 22 new cases of Covid-19 and four deaths from the virus.

Paul Pettit, public health director in Genesee and Orleans counties, reported the cases at Orchard Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Medina.

Orchard announced one of the deaths in a letter to the community that was posted on Orchard’s Facebook page on Thursday. Pettit said the four deaths reported today include the one announced Thursday by Orchard.

The nursing home had three confirmed cases of Covid-19. But now has 22 more.

Pettit said the nursing home tested all of its residents and staff ahead of the state mandate for more testing of staff and residents. That testing showed some asymptomatic residents who were positive for Covid-19, Pettit said.

Pettit today also reported The Villages of Orleans Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albion suffered another death of a resident. The Villages has now had 23 residents die from Covid-19.
