Orleans County’s neighbor to the south, Genesee, is getting pounded with wind and snow today. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning until 1 a.m. Thursday for Genesee, which could get another 5 to 10 inches of snow. Winds are gusting as high as 40 mph with  wind chills as low as 25 below zero. Erie and Wyoming counties are included in the blizzard warning.

Orleans County hasn’t faced those harsh conditions today. It has been brutally cold with temperatures in the low single digits.

A wind chill warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for Orleans. Winds will be gusting as high as 35 mph and wind chills as low as 30 below zero are expected.

UPDATED 3:48: Genesee County has issued a travel ban. Blowing and drifting snow have created poor visibility and unsafe/hazardous traveling conditions for motorists.

A travel ban means no travel for anyone except emergency vehicles which includes police, ambulance, snow plows, etc.
