Orange Tigers nips Black Tigers in an All Lyndonville Major Division title contest

On a very special evening for Lyndonville youth baseball, the Lyndonville Orange Tigers nipped visiting Lyndonville Black Tigers 5-4 in the Major Division baseball championship game Thursday.

The Black Tigers, sponsored by Burger King, put up the first run of the game in the top of the first inning as Landon Markidis singled into centerfield and scored Shawn Robertson who walked, and stole second to setup the opportunity.

Lyndonville Black scored again in the top of the third inning as Gio Sabino scored from third on a centerfield single off the bat of Brandon Dill. Lane Woodworth of the Orange Tigers helped close out the top of third by connecting with Kam Kassay at second base to throw out two attempted steals.

The Orange Tigers, sponsored by Whipple Reality, got on the board in the bottom of the third inning tallying 2 runs. Zander Miller reached first with a walk and stole second base to setup the threat. Kassay singled into centerfield scoring Zander. A single off the bat of Maddox Smith scored Kassay who stole second and reached third on a passed ball making the score 2-2.

In the top of the fourth inning, with Black Tiger runners on first and second, Gayvn Draper caught a hard hit line drive in center field to stop the Black Tigers from scoring.

Amir Zimmerman scored the Black Tigers third run in the top of the fifth after being walked, stealing second and scoring off the bat of Logan Fonda who singled into centerfield. Draper made another great catch in centerfield to hold the Black Tigers to 1 run.

The Orange Tigers tallied three big runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as  Kassay banged out a home-run scoring Miller and Connor Newman, for a 5-3 Orange Tigers lead.

Lyndonville Black added 1 run in the top of the 6th as Dill scored from second base off a Markidis double to left center field. The score ended 5-4 at the middle of the 6th securing the championship win for the Lyndonville Orange Tigers.

For the game Lyndonville Black tallied 5 hits including Fonda with a single and a double, Dill a single, Markidis a single and a double. The Black Tigers pitching staff totaled 11 strikeouts, Atticus Mank with 6 and Markidis with 5.

The Orange Tigers tallied 9 hits including, Kassay with 2 singles and a home run, Smith 2 singles, Devon Babcock a single, Iziah Rodriquez a single, Thomas Blake a single, Jake Gidley a double. The Orange Tigers pitching staff totaled 9 strikeouts, Quincy McClinsey with 5 and Thomas Blake with 4.
