One big inning sparks Lady Tigers

Trailing 1-0, No. 3 seed Lyndonville exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning to key an 8-2 victory over visiting No. 6 Hammondsport this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Section V Class D1 softball playoffs.

A three-run triple by Hailey Wetherbee was the big blast of the decisive fifth inning which also included a run producing triple by Cheyenne Button and RBI singles by Kaitie Albone and Katie Marek. Singles by Button, Marek and Rebekah Hoffee ignited the uprising.

Maddy Boyle picked up the win in the circle scattering six hits and striking out five.

Defending champion Lyndonville next faces Genesee Region League foe Elba in the semifinals on Tuesday at Brockport High School. Elba upended rival Notre Dame in another quarterfinal contest.
