William Patrick “Pat” Mackey of Youngstown, NY, ended his long courageous battle with cancer on April 15, after celebrating his 80th birthday on April 4 with his family. Pat won the ovarian lottery when he was born to William Mackey and Mary Jane O’Brien in April 1942 in Medina, NY before moving to Albion.
He served in the U.S. Army in Panama after being drafted, then finished college at Alfred State and worked for Burroughs Corp. He went on from that to become the Vice President of Sales at Barrister, a publicly traded software company in Buffalo. After leaving Barrister, Pat started his own consulting company where he taught at and eventually sold. He finally retired at the age of 65 after working for some of his friends’ software companies. The Youngstown Yacht Club meant a lot to Pat, serving as treasurer and leading the Level Regatta for 10 years. In retirement, he was busy with many groups, including YEREDO (Youngstown Estates Retired Executive Drinking Organization), ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out), his local Ski Group and volunteering as a business consultant at SCORE.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years Suzanne Cecilia, daughter Keely and granddaughter Eden, son Dan (Pia) and grandsons Jack and Killian, son Bryan (Nicole) and grandson Miles, sisters Catherine Mackey (Bill Carley) and Ann Mackey and sister-in-law Linda (Bill) Delaney, brother-in-law Richard (Cathy) Nadler and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In true Pat fashion, he will have a pint of Guinness “as he can’t eat on an empty stomach,” take the 1968 dune buggy to YYC and sail his boat off into the sunset as he fondly says “isn’t the wind on the lake just the best…”

Pat’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Church, 218 Hinman Street, Youngstown, NY.
