Wanda M. Maxon

WEST BARRE – Wanda Marie (Hale) Maxon, 83, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on October 18, 2020 at the Hospice of Orleans Martin-Linsin Residence. Wanda was born February 4, 1937 in Batavia to the late Lester and Geraldine (Wetherbee) Hale.

She grew up in Oakfield and graduated from Oakfield School with high honors. After graduation, she married and moved to West Barre where she raised seven children, and fostered 38 more children, and adopted one. She was a foster parent for many years and children were her life. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and listening to the birds sing. Wanda kept a daily diary and had a soft spot for cats.

Wanda is survived by her children, Dennis (Connie) Maxon, Denise (David) Jaczynski, Steven (Yvonne) Maxon, Scott (Mona) Maxon, Russell (Cheryl) Maxon, Jan (Derrick) Standish, Todd Maxon and Carl (Tammy) Maxon; grandchildren, Bradley Maxon, Tyler Maxon, Amber Jaczynski, Amanda Torbit, Mary Nicholson, Alex Maxon, Alan Maxon, Henry Maxon, Tiffany Pahuta, Ryder Maxon and West Maxon. Wanda is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Bartholf; and brother, Darwin Hale.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Tuesday, October 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wanda’s funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt.
