Walter J. Stella

GENEVA – Walter J. Stella, aged 67, passed away on November 25, 2024, in Geneva, NY. Born March 5, 1957, Walt was known for his quick wit, sly smile and active generosity. Throughout his life Walt dedicated time and energy to assisting those around him, often offering a ride, running an errand or sharing his homemade fudge brownies.

Walter graduated from Gates Chili High School and went straight into the US Navy where he served for eight years.

He is survived by his ex-wife, two daughters, grandchildren, his brothers Willam E (Lorry Whipple) Stella Jr. and Daniel P. Stella (Debbie), sisters Maurina B. (John) Schmidt, Irene M. (Jon) Jordan, Ilene M. Stella, nieces Melissa A Viau, Sara G. (James) Henderson, Emily L. Stella, Danielle M. Stella, and nephews Jonathan R. Jordan and Jesse L. Jordan and several cousins.

He was predeceased in life by his parents William E. Stella Sr. and Doris A Stella (Frawley) and his aunt and uncle Katherine and Adam Yokopovich.

Services to honor Walt’s life will be held at Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc, 123 West Main St., Palmyra, NY 14552 on Thursday December 12, 2024 with visitation from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A service will follow visitation at 1 p.m.

The internment will be on December 13 at 11 a.m. at Grove Place Cemetery in Chili, NY.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Wayne County Humane Society, a cause close to Walt’s heart. Walt’s legacy of kindness, humor and community service will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
