Tomas V. Martinez, 82, of Medina, entered into rest on Tue., April 23, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

Born March 8, 1937 in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Felicano Martinez and Antonia (Vasquez) Martinez. Mr. Martinez started farming at a very young age. He moved to the United States in 1951, first living in New Jersey and then making his way to Medina, where he continued his hard work in farming. He picked apples for Roberts Farm for many years and also worked at Bernzomatic, from which he eventually retired. Mr. Martinez enjoyed gardening, fishing, singing, and playing guitar. He was also a great cook and was best known for his delicious rice.

He is survived by his children, Debra (Tomas) Mercado, Carl (Bruce) Luckman, Ladena Anderson, Carol (Paul) Wisniewski-Pavlock, Kathleen (Leandor) Taylor, Lori Martinez, Michelle (Edward) Vasquez Martinez, Sophie Martinez, Tomas (Lorna) Martinez and Robert Martinez; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; sisters, Adela Vazquez, Christina Vazquez and Elisa Vazquez; brothers, Francisco Vazquez, Elisel Martinez, Jesus Martinez and Carlos Vazquez; good friend, Marilyn Windnagle; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his son, Timothy Martinez; granddaughter, Amanda Bloom; good friend, Diane Brege Martinez; and siblings, Amelia Vazquez, Maria Vazquez, Victor Vazquez, Claudio Vazquez, Cesar Vazquez, Angel Luis Vazquez and Santiago Vazquez.

Calling hours will be held on Fri., April 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Sat., April 27 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Medina.
