Steven T. Sills, 50, was suddenly called to be with the Lord on Mon., March 23, 2020.

He was born in Albion to William and Brenda (Horth) Sills and lived in this area most of his life. He attended Lyndonville High School and graduated in 1987. After high school, Steven enlisted in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division, and he served in Iraq during Desert Storm. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and an Army Achievement Medal.

After the Army, he went to Fordham University in New York City, graduating with two bachelor’s degrees. He had memberships in a few veterans’ clubs, and he was actively involved with WNY Mobile Overdose Prevention Services and Orleans – Recovery Hope Begins Here.

Steven enjoyed reading, writing, gardening, and being outdoors. He was also active with volunteer work, especially helping his mother with her Hospice clients. With a belief in teaching people to self-motivate and self-teach, he bought a violin and taught himself how to play it. Being a history buff, Steven traveled all over the world and developed a love of Israel. He was known for his wit, intellect, compassion, love for people, and so many random acts of kindness. He left a positive impression on just about all he met.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Laura Sills-Merkl of Medina; two nieces, Jacey Sills of The Netherlands and Lexey Cornelius of Medina; aunts and uncles, Christine (Edward) Walczak Sr. of Albion, Eileen (Jim) Quinlivan of Northville, N.Y., Barrie (Cindi) Horth of Holley, and Ronald “Butch” (Nancy) Horth of Waterport; several cousins and friends; and his furry companion, Puff.

He was predeceased by his great-grandparents, George and Pheobe (Axtell) Strickland; his grandparents, Alice “Sue” Sills, Raymond Sills, Lee Horth and Arlene Horth Sipple; and an uncle, Wayne Horth.

Relatives and friends may call on Sat., Sept. 5 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Carlton United Methodist Church, 1196 Archbald Road, Waterport NY 14571, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. A luncheon will be held after the service at the Carlton Fire Company Recreational Hall, 1853 Oak Orchard Road, Albion NY 14411. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Committal Service on Wed., Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at Otter Creek Cemetery, with full military honors being accorded.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans, P.O. Box 489, Albion NY 14411; or to PAWS Animal Shelter, 3371 Gaines Basin Road, Albion NY 14411.
