When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, remember the love that we have shared and that will comfort thee…

Stanley Neil Gillmeister, 80, of Horseheads, N.Y., passed away from this life on Sun., April 28, 2019 at Guthrie Corning Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Stan was born on July 31, 1938 in Medina to the late Charles and Lillian (Bruning) Gillmeister.

Stan married the love of his life, Janice Elaine (Moden) Gillmeister, at Wolcottsville Lutheran Church on Dec. 30, 1961. They had 57 happy years together. Stan proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the Owego Kiwanis Club, a lifetime member of the Nichols Volunteer Fire Department, and a Tioga County Fire Investigator. For 35 years, Stan worked at NYSEG as a manager in the Owego office. He loved to work on his computer, researching and recording his family’s genealogy. Stan enjoyed golfing, birdwatching, photography, and growing African violets, but most of all, he loved his family. He thoroughly enjoyed giving everyone a hard time in his own loving way. If you knew Stan, you knew “it was Stan’s way or the highway,” and his loved ones wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Stan will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Janice; his daughter, Judie (Doug) Scrivener of Horseheads; his son, Mark (Lisa) Gillmeister of Buffalo; his grandchildren, Alexandrea Scrivener, Shawn Scrivener, Amanda Scrivener, Christina Scrivener, Derek (Laura) Scrivener, Joshua Terry, Zachary Terry, Sara (Humberto Jr.) Perez, and Mark Gillmeister Jr.; his great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Lillian, Jazmyne, Jamison, Joseph, Autumn, Sophia, Harlie, Gracie and Noah; his sister, Phyllis (Lynn) Mietz of Middleport; his aunts, Veronica Gillmeister of Orchard Park and Eleanor Gillmeister of Lockport; his godchildren, Eric Mietz and Kelly (Wayne Downs) Bentley; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of caring friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Sat., May 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A celebration of his life will follow at 3 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Millville Cemetery, Medina.
