American flagHOLLEY – Russell J. Gleason, 60, died October 28, 2021 in the New York State Veterans Home of Batavia following a long illness. He was born March 9, 1961 in Baltimore, MD, a son of Thomas and Veleta (Transue) Gleason.

Russ was a United States Army Veteran serving as a helicopter pilot from 1980-1985. Russ enjoyed singing in Barber Shop Quartets, playing chess, trivia and all things “Spiderman”.  He had a strong faith and was the light of his family with his charm, humor, generosity and love.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gleason was predeceased by his wife Carol and a brother, Tom.  He is survived by his daughter: Michelle Gleason of GA; his brothers, Dan (Laurie) Gleason of NC and Ralph (Buffie) Gleason of Holley; sisters, Sue (Dan) Golding of FL, Veleta (Rick) Muhs of Holley as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Rt. 31-Holley, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. only. His interment will be held privately in Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
