ALBION – Russell E. Elwell passed away following a brief illness on November 8, 2022.  He was born on February 16, 1956 in Brockport, NY to William and Marcia Elwell.

In addition to his father, Russell was predeceased by his brother Mark Elwell and brother-in-law James Rush.

Russell received his high school diploma and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in meteorology, attending schools in both Albany and Oswego.  Russell spent about 40 years of his time down in New Orleans, loving to celebrate Mardi Gras and participate in the Jazz Festivals.  He also liked to eat crawdads and hang out at the slot machines. Russell was known as a numismatist, studying and collecting all different kinds of coins, as well as watching TV programs about such coins.  His biggest joy in life, though, was his family.

Russell is survived by his mother, Marcia Elwell; sisters, Valerie Rush and Bonnie Johnson; nephews, Jason Elwell, Jeremy Elwell, Michael Blake, and Steven Blake; nieces, Cheryl Laine and Samantha Ham; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 on Friday, November 11 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411.  Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Russell’s name may be made to Royal Body Shop Outreach Ministries, P.O. Box 355 Albion, NY 14411.
