Ross A. Barr

Barr, 92, of Lockport died Jan. 19, 2021 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital following a long illness.  He was born Aug. 3, 1928 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  Ross served in the Navy Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces and had travelled the world as a Master Swimmer and was a Swimming Coach at Royalton Hartland Central School.  In doing so, he had received many medals for his efforts, particularly with the Empire State Games.

He was a former employee of Gasport Welding, had enjoyed tinkering around the house and in his shop.  He loved his dogs and treated them like his kids.  Ross will be remembered as a devoted family man and as a person with a great sense of humor.

Mr. Barr was predeceased by three sisters.  He is survived by his children: Michael Barr of Gasport, Steven (Susan Patterson) Barr of Ariz., Bonnie Rice of Youngstown, and Scott (Debbie) Barr, Amy (Louis) Smith, Rick (Luz) Barr, Ray (Courtney) Barr all of Fla., Jenny Barr of Newfane; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport, Tue., Jan. 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. where his funeral service will be held Wed., Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.  The service will also be live streamed on the funeral home website listed below, also beginning at 11 a.m.  Interment will be in Hartland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14304.  Please note the funeral home will be operating at 33% capacity per state guidelines. NY requires those in attendance to adhere to social distancing guidelines and face coverings are mandatory.
