Ronald Charles Mathes

ALBION –  Ronald Charles Mathes, 67, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Mon., Sept. 28, 2020. He was born on June 9, 1953 to the late Dudley and Margaret (Basinait) Mathes.

Ron made countless friends throughout the course of his journeys, from growing up on a dairy farm to the many years in service to the USPS. Quick to smile and slow to anger, he shared his kindness with many that crossed his path. Ron was a voracious reader, skilled gardener and expert wordsmith that could often be found with his nose in a book, hands in the soil or hitting a triple word score in Scrabble. Ron also enjoyed listening to music and sharing his companionship with other members of the Albion Active Hose Company. He will be missed.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert. Ron is survived by his children: Jason Mathes, Nathan (Samantha) Mathes, Amber Downey and Challis (Bethany) Mathes; grandchildren: Jill, Colin, Ainsley and Ewan; mother of his children, Cindi Mathes; siblings: George (Sally) Mathes, Kathryn (Jim) Wells, Barbara (Benjamin) Abaunza-Mathes, Dr. Richard (Dr. Catherine Homrig) Mathes, and Jeanne (Donald Seyerle) Gomez; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hoag Library, 134 S. Main St., Albion, NY 14411 or your local library system. Ron’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. of Albion.
