Robert J. Smith

Robert J. “R.J.” Smith, 87, of Kendall, passed away April 29, 2019 at Unity Hospital. He was born June 3, 1931 in Albion, son of the late Robert and Sarah (Wilson) Smith.

R.J. was an active member of the Kendall Fire Company. He served as Kendall Highway Superintendent for 26 years and also served as President of the State Association of Highways. He enjoyed working on his projects, spending time at The Lot, camping, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Smith; children, Ronald (Claudia) Smith, Steven (Kathy) Smith, Gary (Terri) Smith and Susan (Jeff) Velte; grandchildren, Laura (Jon) Neubauer, Mitchell Smith, Taryn (Sean) Martell, Ryan (Janet) Williams, Christopher (Keli) Williams, Dani Fanton and Jamie Fanton; several great-grandchildren, including the latest, Violet Marie Neubauer; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., 21 West Ave., Albion, on Sat., May 4 from 12 to 3 p.m., followed by R.J’s memorial service at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Private interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kendall United Methodist Church, 1808 Kendall Road, Kendall NY 14476; or to Kendall Fire Co., 1879 Kendall Road, Kendall NY 14476.
