Richard E. “Bing” Harney

Richard E. “Bing” Harney, 84, of Lyndonville, NY, passed away peacefully at the Buffalo VA Hospital on Fri., May 13, 2022.

Born on Dec. 12, 1937 in Pepperell, Mass., he was the son of the late Francis and Mary (Austin) Harney. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his siblings: Mary Alden, Francis W. Harney, Jr., John A. Harney, Charles A. Harney, Peter H. Harney, Robert Harney and Michael P. Harney.

“Bing,” as he was known as by his friends, was an avid golfer and loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. He also loved watching college softball and football games, even if they were from a couple of years ago. He especially liked going to Batavia Downs “when the stars were aligned with the moon.” Bing served in the U.S. Army and was employed by the Lyndonville Central School District as a dedicated custodian from 1979-1999.

Richard is survived by his sisters: Pamela (Bill) Bassett of Greensboro, GA, Sheila (Eric) Linscott of Newark, DE; and brother, James (Suzanne) Harney of Fredericksburg, VA. Bing spent the last few months making special memories with his dear friends, James and Valerie Wells. A day didn’t go by where Bing had a special story to tell or a quick witted saying to laugh about. He loved to share his ice cream with the Well’s black Labrador retriever known to Bing as “Blackie.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Bogan & Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St., Lyndonville, NY 14098 on Fri., June 3, 2022 at 11 am with the Pastor Martha Mitchell officiating.

Memorials may be made in Richards name to the Orleans County Joint Veterans Council Van Service, 13996 Rt.31W, Albion, NY 14411.
