John Klatt

The Rev. John R. Klatt, 66, of Lyndonville, died Nov. 13, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 21, 1953 in Medina, the son of Paul and Lois (Nobles) Klatt.

John attended Lyndonville High School, graduating in 1971. His education continued at the State University of New York at Alfred; Concordia College, Bronxville, N.Y.; Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and Seminary in Exile (Seminex), St. Louis, Mo., where he received his Master of Divinity degree. He was ordained in 1981 and served as a Minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 35 years. The congregations he served throughout New York State include Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg, Trinity Lutheran Church in Herkimer, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Redwood, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Orleans Corners, All Saints Lutheran Church in Hamburg, St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Seneca, and Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in North Tonawanda.

In early 2016, he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, which he courageously fought into remission until his sudden death. This past August, he was blessed to have trekked across Iceland with the Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma organization to raise money for finding a cure for this cancer. God, family and love were most important to him. He found joy in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and hiking.

His father, Paul H. Klatt, predeceases him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Bonnie; daughter, Jasmine (Bryan) Belflower; son, Joseph (Amy) Klatt; four grandchildren; his mother, Lois; his uncle, Robert Nobles; his aunt, Marion Howe; brothers, Thomas (Kathy) Klatt and Stephen (Lori) Klatt; sister, Mary (Nathan) Schlabach; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Sat., Dec. 14  at 1 p.m. at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1355 West Ave., Medina NY 14103.
