Raymond E. Cook, Jr.

Cook, Jr., 78, of Inverness, Fla. died Sept. 15, 2021 at Citrus Memorial Hospital.  He was born, Sept. 27, 1942 in Medina, New York, son of Raymond and Pearl (Quintern) Cook.  Ray was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran serving from Jan. 28, 1960 thru Jan. 27, 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1966.

He worked for AC Rochester Products, a Division of General Motors in Rochester, NY as a Millwright for 30 years.  Ray served as a Councilman from 1974-1978 for the Town of Shelby and was a Legislator from 1979 -1985 for Orleans County.  Additionally, he was a YMCA board member and 1st Program Chairman in Medina, NY before moving to N. Chili, NY.  He retired in 1994 with a move to Inverness, Fla. and became a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Ray loved making birdhouses recently and enjoyed giving them away.  He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage.  He loved watching old cowboy movies and talking with people, especially Marine Corps Vets. Once a Marine always a Marine.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger Cook who was killed in Vietnam on Jan. 15, 1967.  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce (Hill) Cook of Inverness, Fla.; son, David of N. Chili, NY; daughter, Lori Rice of Fla.; grandchildren: Nathan and Nicole Rosenthal of NJ; sister, Sue King; brother, Robert (Marcia) Cook of Medina, NY.

A Celebration of Life will be held Mon., Sept. 27, 2021 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at VFW Post #1483, 216 E. Center St., Medina. Ray will be laid to rest at Millville Cemetery, Medina. Cremation care by Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, Fla.
