ALBION – Ray C. Babbitt, 71, passed away peacefully at his home October 7, 2022. He was born July 27, 1951 in Brockport, a son of the late Charles and Edna (Snyder) Babbitt and had lived in this area all of his life.

Ray was a lifetime member of 51 years and past Exalted Ruler of the Albion Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #1006. After a long career as an electrician, he spent his semi-retirement working at Ace Hardware in Albion. His wife referred to him as the “Mayor” of Albion because he knew everybody, always made time to say hello, and was well liked in the community. Ray was a life-long Buffalo Bills fan. He could always be seen taking his daily drive to Tim Horton’s for his coffee and donuts and was known by the girls as Ray Ray. But most importantly Ray loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother-in-law John Hugh Clark and nephew Mark Clark.

Ray is survived by his loving companion and wife of 24 years, Sue; his son Michael (Mi Yong) Babbitt; daughter Lisa (Chris Moore) Babbitt; step-children Jennifer and Jonathan Deskins; grandchildren Marissa (Ronnell) Foster, Rachael Babbitt, Bryce Froman, JoJo Deskins; sister Gail Clark; mother-in-law Marge Belmont; aunt Jean Brooks; as well as several in-laws, cousins and many friends.

The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Ave. Albion on Tuesday, Oct. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. where his Elks and Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery. A celebratory gathering at the Albion Elks Lodge will immediately follow his services.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities, www.catholiccharitiesusa.org or to the organization of your choice.
